What is accelerated orthodontics?

Accelerated orthodontics refers to the process of speeding up your orthodontic treatment time. 

Traditional braces, which consist of metal brackets and wires, take 18 months to three years to straighten teeth and correct bite problems. Meanwhile, Invisalign® and Spark™ clear aligners take around 6-18 months.

How does accelerated orthodontics work?

Orthodontic treatments work by remodeling the bone in your jaw. The constant force from braces or clear aligners pulling your teeth in specific directions eventually causes the tooth-supporting alveolar bone to break down and reshape itself. This process allows your orthodontics to shift your teeth into alignment.

Propel offers a series of devices that stimulate your tooth-supporting bone by creating micro-osteoperforations™ with high-frequency vibrations (HFVs). The treatment places tiny dimples along your gumline. These dimples then generate microfractures within your alveolar bone to accelerate the orthodontic process. 

By breaking down this bone with precision, Propel allows your orthodontics to work more efficiently. Once your bone starts to heal, it secures your newly straightened teeth in place.

What are my accelerated orthodontics options?

ChapmanSmiles Orthodontics offers both in-office and at-home accelerated orthodontics options for your convenience and comfort.

In-office treatment

The Propel Excellerator® is a quick in-office treatment that requires virtually no downtime. Dr. Chapman uses the Propel Excellerator to place small dimples along your gumline, near teeth that require the most movement. 

This procedure takes no more than a few minutes and you can resume your normal activities immediately after.

At-home treatment

The Propel VPro is an at-home device that you place in your mouth to deliver HFVs straight to your tooth-supporting bone. The device’s mouthpiece is shaped like a “U” that you gently bite down on and hold firmly in place. Simply turn on the device and feel the vibrations. 

The VPro takes just five minutes a day to effectively accelerate your treatment time.
